Suncoast NewsHUDSON -- Drums a hit at senior center! Unsuspecting visitors at Bear Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center last week may have thought about turning around as they came through the front entrance. Just off the main lobby, the sound of beating drums was echoing through the corridors like some ancient warning that the natives were restless. Actually, the sound of the rhythmic pounding indicated an entertaining change of pace for the residents as they welcomed Barry Skeete, owner of Drum With Me, who was there to lead a drum circle. Bear Creek Nursing Center Voted a winner in the Suncoast News Readers Poll 2011

St. Petersburg TimesHUDSON -- In 1981, Dianna White was a single mother of three working construction. Around Thanksgiving Day that year, she volunteered at the newly opened Bear Creek Nursing Center on State Road 52, where a friend worked. "I wound up volunteering for about two weeks," White said. Eventually, the nursing director asked whether she would consider becoming a nurse's assistant. "It was a steady job, and with construction, there was always a lot of rain," White said. "I said I'd try it. For a while, I still worked construction on my off days." She doesn't work construction anymore. The longest-standing employee at Bear Creek, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in Hudson on Sept. 15, White calls the center "home away from home." "This building was new when I started," she said. "Now it's been upgraded and remodeled and taken on a whole new look. Also, we kind of started out working (almost exclusively) with the older generation. They've lived quite a life, you know, and they'll tell you all their stories." ... [ read online ]

Suncoast NewsBear Creek Nursing and Rehab Center, 8041 S.R. 52, Hudson, achieved award status from the Florida Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for the completion of a resident safety program from 2008 to 2011.

This program was designed to assess residents for safety precautions and to implement various interventions to promote resident safety and compliance with Bear Creek Nursing and Rehab Center's restraint-free program. Its nursing and therapy departments coordinated a time-based study and implemented new positioning techniques, enhanced therapy and restorative program and resident centered activities to improved safety awareness. ...
